Apex Dyslexia Assessments

Assessment
What Does a Full Dyslexia Assessment Include?

A full dyslexia assessment is a supportive, in-depth look at how your child learns, helping to identify strengths as well as areas where extra support may be helpful.

Assessment Process

Initial Consultation
-
An initial consultation allows parents/carers to talk through concerns, ask questions, and decide whether a full assessment would be helpful.

Before the Assessment
-
Parents/carers, school and the student are asked to complete questionnaires covering developmental history, school experiences, and any previous support.
-
We request confirmation of a recent sight test and hearing check to rule out sensory difficulties.

On the Day
-
The assessment is conducted in a calm, supportive environment, with regular breaks provided throughout, as needed. It typically lasts up to three and a half hours.
-
During the assessment, the student’s reading, spelling, and writing skills are explored, along with important underlying skills such as memory and processing speed.
After the Assessment
-
A follow-up discussion is offered, within 1 week of the assessment, to explain the results and answer any questions.
-
A clear, detailed written report is emailed to parents/carers.
-
Practical, personalised recommendations are provided to support learning at home and at school.

Sharing the Report
-
Reports are shared with parents/carers and can be shared with schools or other professionals with written consent. This will be forwarded by e mail or as a paper copy within 3 weeks of the assessment.

Use of the Report
The report may be used as evidence to support:

-
School-based support and reasonable adjustments
-
Examination access arrangements, in line with JCQ guidance and in conjunction with the school
-
Workplace adjustments, where appropriate
-
Disabled Students’ Allowance (DSA) applications
